Sig is a city that’s constantly shifting, where it’s best to not get too comfortable. Just when you think your brilliant plan is about to pay off, someone else’s scheme, or the unpredictable whims of the Powers and tides of the Planes, will oft knock everything askew.

This supplement introduces an alternative to Sig: City of Blades’s default Fallout system, designed to produce a greater variety of more engaging events for the Freebooters to respond to. This helps Sig feel like a living, churning city and to give some mechanical teeth to make the decision of which problems to engage with and which to ignore more interesting. Some of these troubles are one-time events, and some are ongoing and last until dealt with.

To support these troubles, this supplement also introduces an additional track, Morale, and an additional rules concept, Intrusions.

This is an adaption of Morgan Davie’s Trouble Engine, originally used in a|state, which I find a very strong addition to the Forged in the Dark formula to add to the variety of developments that may beset the PCs and make their environment feel more alive. It requires Sig: City of Blades in order to play, though you could adapt it to any Forged in the Dark game.
